Experience

With her knowledge and experience in different industries and practice areas, Stacy is a resource of information, expertise and guidance for companies of all sizes. She has represented clients in state and federal courts across Texas and regularly handles claims before the Texas Workforce Commission, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice and other administrative bodies. 
 

Stacy has successfully resolved numerous claims through informal settlement negotiations and mediations to avoid disruptive and protracted litigation. In cases that were not resolved through negotiation, Stacy has obtained summary judgments or dismissals on the merits in a variety of areas in which she practices, including lawsuits involving employers, health care professionals, title companies, childcare centers, officers and directors, mortgage brokers, and landlords and tenants. In recent years, Stacy’s practice has primarily focused on assisting employers and defending businesses against personal injury claims.   

 

Below are a few of Stacy’s representative engagements:
 

  • Dismissal of an employment discrimination and retaliation lawsuit in which the plaintiff sued under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and sought more than $1 million in damages. The dismissal was affirmed by the Fifth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court denied certiorari. 
  • Successfully defended an employer from a defamation claim in a summary judgment case. 
  • Successfully negotiated numerous wage-and-hour class-action lawsuits to achieve favorable settlements. 
  • Dismissal of a fraud claim made by a mortgage broker seeking more than $100,000 in damages. 
  • Dismissals of numerous premises liability claims against retailers and apartment complexes. 
  • Successfully defended a home inspector in a court trial and obtained a take-nothing judgment. 
  • Dismissals of numerous claims against health care professionals who serve correctional facilities, long-term care facilities and rehabilitation facilities.  

 

In addition to defending employers in lawsuits, Stacy has also assisted employers in efficiently running their businesses by:  

  • Drafting customized employment policies and handbooks. 
  • Training managers and employees on best workplace practices. 
  • Counseling employers on the legal implications of routine decisions involving hiring, disciplining, enforcing employment policies, reductions in force and terminations. 
  • Investigating complaints of harassment and discrimination.
