Matt has a wealth of experience and knowledge in different industries and practice areas and has represented many different types of businesses and professionals in state and federal courts throughout Texas.  Matt has also represented clients in proceedings before the Texas Real Estate Commission.  He has obtained numerous dismissals and summary judgments and has also resolved matters outside the courtroom by negotiating favorable and creative settlements.   

 

Below are a few of Matt’s representative engagements:
 

  • Obtained dismissals and summary judgments for landlords and property managers in numerous cases involving tenant disputes. 
  • Obtained dismissals and summary judgments for insurance agents and agencies, and real estate agents and agencies in claims involving negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. 
  • Obtained dismissals and summary judgments for attorneys and law firms facing claims of breach of fiduciary duty and negligence, as well as claims under federal statutes. 
  • Obtained eviction judgments and eviction appeal judgments. 
  • Obtained dismissals for landlords and property managers facing TREC complaints. 
  • Obtained orders lifting bankruptcy stays for landlords. 
  • Obtained a directed verdict after a three-week trial in favor of the president and CEO of an oil and gas company facing allegations of fraud and shareholder oppression. 
  • Obtained a directed verdict for an insurance agent on claims of DTPA violations as well as negligence and breach of fiduciary duty. 
  • Obtained a dismissal and recovery of attorney fees under Texas strategic lawsuits against public participation (anti-SLAPP) in favor of an attorney sued for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. 
  • Obtained summary judgment for defendant in products liability case facing allegations of DTPA violations and negligence. 
  • Obtained a summary judgment for the president and majority shareholder of a hotel management company and lessee of the hotel facing claims of negligence, premises liability, and alter ego.
